If you don't spam Yrden every time you can, the game nearly forces you to git gud at parrying/dodging, timing your attacks and using the appropriate signs all while trying to not get flanked constantly (that only applies to packs rather than one/two enemies). I won't lie and say it's perfect because you can just spam Yrden, attack a few times, use it again off cd and repeat (doesn't always work but you can get away with this a lot) but besides that it probably has the best singleplayer combat in an RPG.

You have to learn how to dodge and Parry well or else you're just dead. Maybe on most of the difficulties yeah, but the hardest difficulty is ridiculous.
